Planning for a Healthier Paunacussing Watershed
June 2026
The Paunacussing Watershed Association has applied for a Pennsylvania Growing Greener Grant to fund a comprehensive watershed assessment. If awarded, the project will identify stream restoration priorities, improve water quality, reduce erosion, and guide future conservation efforts throughout the watershed.
Status: 🟢 Grant application submitted and under review.

The Paunacussing Creek is experiencing increasing erosion, sediment buildup, and damage from more frequent heavy storms. One of the highest-priority concerns is the accumulation of sediment immediately upstream of the historic Paunacussing Bridge, where changing stream conditions affect water quality, aquatic habitat, and flood resilience.
The project will help:
• Improve water quality
• Reduce streambank erosion
• Restore wildlife habitat
• Reduce flooding impacts
• Protect the historic Paunacussing Bridge
• Prioritize future restoration projects

PWA has submitted a planning grant application to Pennsylvania's Growing Greener Program.

Engineers evaluate opportunities and work with participating landowners to develop concepts and preliminary designs.

If restoration projects are recommended, separate funding applications will be pursued.

Construction occurs only after permits, funding, and landowner agreements are secured.
By planning today, we're laying the groundwork for healthier streams, reduced flooding, and better restoration projects throughout the watershed for years to come. It is an important first step toward improving water quality, reducing erosion, and preserving one of Bucks County's most treasured natural resources.

Every membership, donation, and volunteer effort helps protect clean water, healthy habitats, and our community for future generations.
